Meet Dr. Ada Onyewuenyi

Dr. Ada Onyewuenyi is a developmental psychologist, researcher, and educator whose work centers the lived experiences of Black adolescents and emerging adults across the African Diaspora. As an Associate Professor of Psychology and affiliate faculty in African American Studies at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), Dr. Onyewuenyi leads groundbreaking research on identity development, racial socialization, and structural inequality in education.
Through her Identity Development Across the African Diaspora (IDAD) Lab, Dr. Onyewuenyi partners with students, schools, and communities to elevate the voices of Black youth and challenge barriers to academic access and belonging. Her work has been featured in peer-reviewed journals, community initiatives, and national conferences—and continues to influence conversations at the intersection of psychology, race, and education.
